Malaysian Opp. Leader Anwar Ibrahim Denies Secks Tape Allegations
Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who is on currently trial for sodomy, on Monday denied allegations he was the man in a secks tape shown to the media. According to online news portal journalist Sam Tan, who was allowed to view the 17-minute tape, it showed someone looking like the former deputy premier engaging in secks with an un-identified woman in what appeared to be a hotel room. Anwar Ibrahim is a Malaysian politician who served as Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister from 1993 to 1998.
If convicted, Anwar could be jailed for up to 20 years. The Malay Mail/Samsul Said. While on Friday, the protesters, many of them Muslim-Malays, gathered after Friday prayers to protest against the protracted trial which they say is a waste of time and resources.
Anwar said he was at home meeting with political staffers when the incident purportedly an assignation with a female prostitute in a hotel room supposedly took place in February. “I even have proof that I was sending tweets at the time the alleged incident was said to have occurred,” he said.
Anwar, a former deputy premier who was sacked and jailed in 1998 on separate sodomy and corruption charges widely seen as politically motivated, said the tape was another “dirty and obscene” attempt to end this career. Mr Anwar’s lawyers argued that there’s no legal basis for the prosecution to compel Mr Anwar to give his DNA.
